I Thought Healing Meant Eczema Would Be Gone

//

Hi, I'm Veronica, Scrachee's founder.

There's something I don't talk about very often.

My son still has eczema.

After everything we've been through. After years of learning. After Topical Steroid Withdrawal (TSW). After the sleepless nights. After changing our routines. After countless hours of research. After building an entire brand inspired by our family's journey.

He still has eczema.

And even though we're in a much better place today, every time he has a flare-up, I still feel something in my chest. It still hurts. I still catch myself wondering if I'm missing something or if there's more I should be doing.

Because when you love someone that deeply, you never want to see them uncomfortable. You never want to watch them scratch. You never want to see them go through something you can't completely fix.

I think that's one of the hardest parts of being a mom to a child with eczema.

It doesn't matter how much you've learned.

It doesn't matter how much experience you have.

It doesn't matter how many tools you've gathered along the way.

When it's your child...

It always hurts.

But over time, I've realized something.

I used to think healing meant eczema would disappear forever. I imagined there would be a finish line where we would never have to think about it again.

Our reality has looked different.

My son still has flare-ups from time to time.

Some seasons are easier than others.

And we're still learning.

The difference is that we no longer live in survival mode.

And that changes everything.

Today, we have knowledge.

We have routines.

We have tools.

We have ways to support him.

And while I can't promise that eczema will disappear forever, I can honestly say our quality of life is completely different from what it was just a few years ago.

Maybe healing doesn't always mean the problem disappears.

Maybe sometimes healing means it no longer controls your life.

That realization has brought me so much peace.

Because I'm no longer chasing perfection.

I'm building comfort.

I'm building confidence.

I'm building more calm days.

And that counts too.

With love,

Veronica
