Gentle Home Cleaning: Safe Products for Eczema-Prone Skin

Gentle Home Cleaning: Safe Products for Eczema-Prone Skin

There are many actions we unconsciously take that can severely harm eczema-prone skin, and one of these actions is using cleaning products that are harmful to our health.

Most of the disinfectants, detergents and cleaners that we find in the supermarket/ grocery store usually have very aggressive and harmful ingredients, and the worst thing is that our skin has constant contact with these substances since they remain on all the surfaces of our home.

Some ingredients that you should be avoiding in household cleaning products are: Fragrances, Sulfates Ammonia, Chlorine (Bleach), Strong acids (such as sulfuric acid), Abrasive agents, Glycols, Phenols, Formaldehyde, Aliphatic hydrocarbons, Glycol ethers, Phthalates, Alkaline agents, Artificial colors, Strong solvents (such as acetone), Parabens, Sodium lauryl ether sulfate (SLES), Methylisothiazolinone (MI).

When you review the ingredients of the products you currently use to clean or do the laundy, you will realize that many of the above mentioned substances will be present and you will be left with very limited products options for cleaning your home, so I want to give you safer alternatives:

Make your own cleaners at home 🏠✨

Ingredients such as lemon, baking soda and vinegar are very effective when it comes to cleaning our home, they work as a disinfectant and degreaser.

These ingredients are fabulous to clean different surfaces including countertops, sinks, stoves and ovens, microwaves, refrigerators, bathroom sinks, faucets, tile, mirrors, tubs and showers, toilets, tile floors, windows, glass and more, leaving them shiny.

Use these combinations to find out which one works best for you:

Lemon + baking soda

White vinegar + water

Water + vinegar + baking soda

All of them are safe on almost all surfaces, but I recommend doing a test on one part of the surface to make sure it does not cause any damage.

Buy products with clean ingredients 🛒✨

Choose products that do not contain bleach, ammonia, dyes or fragrances, I like the Branch Basics brand a lot, and it's the one I'm currently using to clean my home (including laundry). These are some of my favorite products from this brand

Laundry Bottle: to wash clothes, towels, sheets and curtains safely.

All-Purpose Bottle: I use it to clean the surfaces of the house and kitchen after cooking.

Oxygen Boost: works like an oxy, perfect for stain removal.

I hope you find this info useful and that you can keep your home clean and at the same time safe for eczema skin 🥰
